American Hazelnut Corylus americana
Price
$16.50
American hazelnuts used to be ubiquitous in KY, especially along fencerows and the edge of woods. This suckering shrub provides food and habitat for wildlife.
This shrub will grow 6-9 feet tall and will sucker if not kept mowed. Male catkins dangle and are ornamental during the winter. Small red female flowers emerge in the early spring on the same plant with the catkins. Cross-pollination by wind is needed to pollinate the nut.
Our hazelnuts are all grown from seed so they are genetically different from one another and will successfully pollinate each other.
